The Myrtle
The popularity enjoyed by this plant in Sardinia is remarkable to the point that it is the subject of established customs.
In winter, walking through the Mediterranean scrub, you can easily find bushes with myrtle berries which, after being hand-picked and cleaned of leaves, are ready to be soaked in alcohol for homemade liqueur preparation.
At the end of the maceration, which lasts almost 2 months, the infusion is mixed with syrup and after a few days of resting it is ready for tasting.
The same liqueur is our digestive par excellence, offered in our restaurants at the end of the meal.
Traditionally, harvesting in the scrub is done using combs equipped with containers for collection.
